I think here is one MonkBuild missing...
The FAKE/Smiting Monk

divine favor 10(+1)
smiting Prayers 11(+1/+1)
prefered 2. class attribute 10 (for example death magic)

Skills :
Spell Breaker

banish
balthasars aura
symbol of wrath
scourge healing
Putrid Explosion *
Rotting flesh *
resurect signet

*Depends on 2. class

The best is when ur wearing a sword so u can use symbol and aura efficient
scourge healing best at the target u attack
and spellbreaker on the enemys focus target.
works best when your whole team is primary monk to confuse the enemy

This is something I've been playing with to counter trends I've seen. I've run two builds on this concept with mixed success. One was actually an El/mo, but it really only uses 1-2 elementalist spells and takes advantage of battery power. The build can kill energy in record time, but this is ok because your objective is to detect and counter a spike attempt and also counter conditions attacks/warrior builds. One character can go a long way in countering two major attack approaches, but still requires the assistance of a strong healing monk to win battles. Really the Elmo version works much better since being an elementalist provides some defense in itself and it allows you to effectively kill a major spike attempt without killing your energy bar. Weakness as always will be enchantment removal and lack of direct healing especially Elmo's case.
12+ Protection
Divine Favor/Energy
Earth (balanced to taste)

Protective spirit--reduces all attacks to about 50 which cuts top elementalist hits by more than a third. Lasts forever and can keep up with target switching due to short recharge.

Reversal of Fortune--Against focus fire, this is orison times two--100 point damage turn even with Protective spirit up. This is also a quicker cast than orison.

Shielding Hand--If warriors are in on the focus, this can be more effective. Using sparingly due to recharge, but good to have.

Martyr*--Tell other characters to keep condition removal at home. This will hamstring some warrior, necro and ranger tricks. Its hard to get the right amount of condition removal in a build, but this will cover your bases.

Mend Ailment--You are now a self healing battery against condition builds.

That's the core of the buid. Add signet of devotion if you are a Monk primary. Aegis, wards and armor of earth are fun as an elementalist. Rez if your team needs it. Elmos, bring a damage spell if your teams healing is already fairly solid and consider Aura of restoration if your healing monk isn't helping you much. Remove hex is worth considering if your team needs hex removal, since this build is worthless against hex spam.

Since this is the monk basic thread here goes my basic build incorperating some of this stuff (for monks):
Divine Favor 14(12+1+1)
Protection 13(12+1)

Protective Spirit
Reversal of Fortune
Shielding Hand
Martyr
Mend Ailment
Signet of Devotion
Remove Hex
Vengeance

My PvE Mo/R, Call him the Holy Runner.

Healing Prayers: 15 Maxed with +1 from Scalp +2 Major Healing Rune
Divine Favor: 13 +1 From Minor Divine Rune
Wilderness Survival: 6

Skills:
Healing Breeze
Orison Of Healing
Word Of Healing
Heal Other
Heal Party
Healing Seed
Storm Chaser
Rebirth

I like this build. I put out some pretty big heals. I keep Storm Chaser because, if things turn ugly I turn on the after burners then come back and res everybody. This isn't a bad runner build either. Slap on some Mending plus healing breeze before you StormChase through a mob and you will come out on the other side with full health.

[I'm a Mo/Me20]

What do you all think of the useage of Divine Boon and Vigorous Spirit?

I recently ran into a skilled monk who suggested that the less a monk has to heal, the better, so he suggested I use skills like DB, VS, and Healing Seed (which I already use) in order to heal sparingly but with power.

My concern is that, after trying PvP out for a while (I usually do PvE), Divine Boon is often disspelled, and thus my heals are regular again.. I usually take DMG too.. (Stupid mesmers!)..

As well, with the DB on, when I cast DB and VS, it seems to be a waste of the extra energy DB requires in order to cast those enchantments.

Also, since I have 40 energy, it seems like my energy goes down too fast..

Do you all think it would be best to ditch the DB for weaker heals but more of them, or to keep it and risk the shatter enchantment but have more powerful heals? Also, is it worth it to get tattoos? It seems like the extra energy could solve my problem, but I'm worried about the absence of armor bonuses with tattoos.

DB is good if you can manage the energy. Take some energy management skills, like Channeling + Energy Drain, or Offering of Blood.

Ok, thanks. Do you know where I could get Offering of Blood or Energy Drain? I browsed the monk elites, and Peace & Harmony looks like it could work as well. Might you know where that one is too?

With Divine Boon, Signet of Devotion and an energy regeneration spell (I use Offering of Blood) are essential. With it, I like to use spells like Orison, VS, Reversal, or other 5 mana spammables.

I still wonder why nobody posted any version of the popular Fi Boon Healer Template?

Here is mine:

Monk/Necromacner

Divine Favor 12 (11+1)
Healing 12 (10+1+1)
Protection 8 (7+1)
Blood Magic 7
Smiting 4 (3+1, irrelevant...)

1. Protective Spirit
2. Divine Boon
3. Healing Touch
4. Orison of Healing
5. Reversal of Fortune
6. Dwayna's Kiss (Vigorous Spirit)
7. Offering of Blood (E)
8. Rebirth/Restore Life/Ressurect ...

Divine Boon gives you a boost for normal Healing:

The Orison of Healing will heal for:
60 (Orison) + 61 (Divine Boon) + 38 (Divine Favor Bonus)= 159 Health

As you have three cheap healing spells, RoF, OoH and Dwayna's Kiss, you can heal pretty well with this.

Offering of Blood gives you 14 Energy for 5 and a little bit of Health, and can be cast in the blink of an Eye.

Healing Touch is your self-heal:

38x2 (Double Divine Favor) + 51 + 61 = 188 Healing

Just as theclam said, you need a good energy regeneration to capitalize on the benefits of Divine Boon. Offering of Blood is marvelous in this regard.

The next is a pure PvE Healer that can support Warriors in bringing down their targets faster by use of Balthazar's Aura and Zealot's Fire.

Monk / Mesmer

Healing 12 (10+1+1)
Divine Favor 10 (9+1)
Smiting 9 (8+1)
Protection 9 (8+1)
Inspiration 5

1. Zealot's Fire
2. Balthazar's Aura
3. Shielding Hands (alt: Protective Spirit / Healing Touch)
4. Word of Healing (E)
5. Orison of Healing
6. Reversal of Fortune
7. Channeling
8. Rebirth / Restore Life / Resurrect ...

This build depends on Word of Healing to heal energy efficient. But it is very good for PvE.

I like this build. I run a protection/smite build that does something similar: protect tanks and increase their dmg output. It's a good PvE strategy.

In Kryta monks get 200% extra dmg against undead. So pumnp up on smite in kryta. Other than that monk are not designed to be primary dmg dealers. They are great secondary dmg dealer with smite. Holy Dmg ingnores all armor so having smite can be like a meser you can help weaken the enemy by eating away at his life points.

I'm pretty new to the game, and therefore am not very familiar with the skill sets and basic builds. I do have a lvl12 Mo/W however, and have decided that I really need to make some sort of decision as to what I'm going to do with them before I proceed much further in the game. (ie. while I can still completely alter my char using attribute refunds)

I was wondering if it is at all conceivable to have a Mo/W build which uses a Warrior skill other than tactics, such as sword mastery. I had originally started playing the game with the idea that I could make more of a well-rounded character, using the monk class for healing and protection skills to aid my survival time, and warrior adrenaline skills to deal damage. Maybe this isn't really possible, however, and the build I was going for would be better suited as W/Mo rather than Mo/W. It really doesn't seem as if any monk skills other than enchantments could be effectively used at the same time as offensive melee skills.

Any thoughts would be welcome. If it just really isn't a possibility, then I'll probably try and craft myself a protection monk.

Adrenaline skills would work well for a Monk, since you don't have to spend mana to have an offense, like you would for anything besides a Mo/W. Still, you'll lose a couple skill slots to offensive skills, which would hurt your versatility. If you're looking to be more offensive, with a few Monk skills to keep you alive, W/Mo is the way to go. But, if you're looking to play a healer or protector that uses a few offensive skills, Mo/W is a good choice. You might want to explore the smiting tree. Battle Rage (even without Strength) and Zealot's Fire could work extremely well together.

Also, Bonetti's Defense is a very powerful tool that can be used even with 0 points into Tactics.

Here's a suggestion:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=32980

To solo farm in areas past the Crystal Desert, you need to use Protective Spirit or Protective Bond. Otherwise, you just die way too fast. Besides that, a Divine Boon/Zealot's Fire/Channeling build works well for farming. Divine Boon will heal you for about 100, while doing about 30-35 fire damage through Zealot's Fire and replenishing your energy through Channeling. You can cast it about twice per second to have a constant 200 healing and 60-70 damage per second. It's very powerful.
